Conditions Treated

Your eyes are complex, delicate organs that can be troubled by a wide variety of conditions. Optometrists are trained and licensed to diagnose and manage many different kinds of eye conditions. Take a look at some of the eye issues we can help you with here at Ogata EyeCare in Portland and Tigard, Oregon.

Dry Eye

Dry eye may be due to either insufficient oil in your tear film or inadequate tear production. It can create eye redness, itching, light sensitivity, blurred vision, and other problems. We often recommend a combination of over-the-counter and prescription eye drops, eyelid treatments, lifestyle adjustments, changes in your environment, eyeglass or contact lens changes, and oral prescription medications to help you conquer this disorder.

Computer Vision

Computer vision causes dry eye symptoms, headaches, neck stiffness, and other problems. It's the result of staring at a bright digital monitor for hours at a time. We can provide special filtered glasses and help you create a safer working environment for your eyes.

Eye Injuries

We can treat injuries caused by foreign objects, dangerous chemicals, blows to the eye and other potential emergencies.

Glaucoma

Glaucoma damages the optic nerves, usually because of high fluid pressure and poor eye drainage. Untreated, this condition can cause blindness. We can prescribe oral or topical medications to get your eye pressure under control.

Cataracts

Cataracts prevent the lenses from passing light to the retinas. This condition causes blurred vision, glare sensitivity, poor night vision, and blindness. We can follow your cataracts' progress, correct your vision with glasses or contacts, and co-manage cataract surgery if you need it.

Macular Degeneration

Macular degeneration generally develops in your senior years, damaging the part of the retina that gives you clear central vision. We can prescribe lifestyle changes and preventative measures to slow the progress of macular degeneration, along with nutritional protocols and referrals for injectable eye medications if they are needed.

Diabetic Retinopathy

Diabetic retinopathy occurs when high blood sugar damages the blood vessels of the retina, sometimes causing bleeding and abnormal blood vessel formation in the eyes. We monitor your retinal appearance using state-of-the-art imaging to guide you toward the right necessary diabetes treatment, and can coordinate referrals for surgical treatment when needed.

Eye Function Problems

Eye function problems such as amblyopia, strabismus, and teaming/tracking errors can often be treated by corrective lenses and vision therapy at our clinic.

Conjunctivitis

Viral, bacterial, or fungal infections can cause conjunctivitis, inflammation of the membrane covering the sclera of the eye. We can prescribe soothing prescription medication remedies to help you recover more quickly and comfortably.
